I think there is space for budgetary realities and compassion. We don't have to treat people like numbers, but at the same time, we have a job to do. I think the compassion can come in during the conversations with the employees, not necessarily behind closed doors.
That makes sense. I guess the balance is being pragmatic behind the scenes while making sure the human side comes through in how we deliver it. Still feels cold in the moment though.
We’ve had multiple RIFs in the last 3 years and are planning several more. I use to get sick the morning of the notifications, but it’s almost become normalized. We have a training before each one that focuses on delivering the news with empathy and are provided pre developed talking points to guide the conversation.
relate to that sick feeling—it’s brutal. Training and talking points help, but it never feels natural telling someone their job is gone. Normalising it almost feels worse.
