I have sat in meetings where redundancies were discussed like numbers on a spreadsheet. The truth no one says? Every number is a person, often a family. With NHS cuts hitting hard, how do you keep compassion in conversations about job losses when the bottom line is savings need to be made? 😔

I think there is space for budgetary realities and compassion. We don't have to treat people like numbers, but at the same time, we have a job to do. I think the compassion can come in during the conversations with the employees, not necessarily behind closed doors.

That makes sense. I guess the balance is being pragmatic behind the scenes while making sure the human side comes through in how we deliver it. Still feels cold in the moment though.

We’ve had multiple RIFs in the last 3 years and are planning several more. I use to get sick the morning of the notifications, but it’s almost become normalized. We have a training before each one that focuses on delivering the news with empathy and are provided pre developed talking points to guide the conversation.

relate to that sick feeling—it’s brutal. Training and talking points help, but it never feels natural telling someone their job is gone. Normalising it almost feels worse.

I’m teaching summer school at a high school, and the co-principals have asked me to focus on only 2 to 3 chapters worth (what they are calling “2-3 standards” in the eight days of summer semesters. However, they are also asking me to give kids the midterm and/or final at the end of each period, which covers 4-5 chapters each semester. My question is this: “Is it legal by California Ed code for the administration to ask me to teach less than each entire semester, yet test each whole semester?”

Can someone please for the love of god help me figure out how I can pay less income taxes? I only make 88k and I put the 12k standard deduction but I’m still getting taxed 27% of my paychecks! My sign on bonus (20 even) a few months ago was taxed nearly 45%! Excuse my ignorance, but am I doing something wrong? Will increasing deductions help or should I increase the withholdings? Is this normal?! Thanks for any help/advice, it’s greatly appreciated.
