I just finished a grueling technical assessment for a role only to find out the base salary is 40% lower than the industry average. They kept touting the uncapped bonus potential, but we all know how discretionary that can be in a bad year. Should I try to negotiate the base upward, or is eating what you kill the only way to survive in this tier?

Always negotiate. "Uncapped bonus potential" is a carrot being dangled to get you to accept a pathetic base. Don't do it.

I would not take that job

Yeah, that’s a tough spot, especially after investing so much time in the assessment. I think it’s fair to push on the base, if only to see how flexible they really are. It also really depends on how desperate you are right now, but if they won’t budge, that tells you a lot about what living in that role would actually feel like.

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

Current TC 103K [88/15], offer 125k base [+discretionary bonus].
