I just spoke with a recruiter about a role that initially sounded very aligned with my background, but as the process progressed, the actual scope and expectations seemed quite different. How often are recruiters working with incomplete or evolving information from hiring teams? And what’s the best way for candidates to assess the “real” scope of a role early in the process?

3 attorney firm. I’ve been here for 6 years and have used Westlaw exclusively. Now we are switching to Lexis because apparently Westlaw is too expensive. I hate change. I interviewed at a law firm and had my final round last Friday. The Tuesday afterward, I got a call from the recruiter saying the firm won’t have a decision for another week. I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate.
