Yes it is happening here as well (in GA). I think part of the reason is because those jobs don't really pay well. Its hard to do an emotionally draining job like that and especially when you aren't getting paid a liveable wage.
Yep. I don't know if I would call it a shortage, but in the last 2-3 years we've had more people leave than ever. Thankfully there are still a fair amount of new grads looking for jobs every year (although that numbers declining too I think) otherwise we'd be sol for entry level positions.
We've had a lot of movement of people. We haven't been that successful at hiring new recruits either, so its been hard. I think fewer and people are going into social work and more are leaving the industry, so there are a lot of entry level jobs open.
I would say that this is true. I am an LCSW even though my current role is not in a therapy role. But I receieve between 3 and 5 recruiters approaching me on a weekly basis here in Arizona.
I’m in Virginia and it seems like there is constant movement as there are so many small for profit companies offering mental health support services and they are almost all shady and the jobs are not fulfilling as the focus is on paperwork and writing things in a way to “get them approved for services” so people end up going from agency to agency hoping to find ….something that leaves you ending the day feeling like you are making a difference.
