I keep hearing “act like you already have the role” if you want the promotion, and I get the logic. But sometimes it feels like you’re just doing the higher-level work for free while the title (and comp) stays the same. I’m willing to stretch, but I’m not trying to be taken advantage of. Where’s the line between being proactive and being used?

Proving you are capable of the work and doing it unpaid is a hard line to figure out. Has a lot to do with the company and whether they are happy to take advantage or want to see you progress.

You work and learn and when you feel confident you fully doing the job, then start looking for the job at a place that will give you the title and pay. You can tell them you are doing the job, because you are. If you are not promoted before you find a new job, then that is just to bad for your company. At this point and time you need to look at it as if you are getting on the job training and stop looking at if it is fair or not. Life is not fair, get over it and make the most of what you do have and leverage it to get you to a company that treats their employees respectfully.

Hello, I have an offer from Publicis Sapient for their product management internship program. Wondering if anyone has any insight into the program (exits, etc) and how the return offer looks like in terms of salary. I still also hold an interest in data science so might go with another offer but I’m not sure if it is a wise choice to let go of a PM offer while I have it.

I was interviewed for a major tech player in the hospitality industry, had 2 interviews which for the first one the recruiter was late, and didn't confirm the interview while I emaild her to make sure I do have an interview. When she attended she said that there was no point of responding my email as we are meeting anyway. Later on I had 2nd interview with the hiring manager. After 45 minutes she said they will let me know...

How would someone coming from mostly retail wireless sales get into the tech sales industry? I have been a top performer in every sales job that I have had since I started my career almost 10 years ago. I don't have a degree which I feel might be keeping me from getting my foot in the door but I know I would be amazing in this field. I currently work out in the field selling to customers that have no idea I am coming and I consistently perform at the top of my market.

I left my job about a year ago to relocate, make sure it was the right decision and start a side business in the mean time. Now I’m actively looking for a new sales position, have tons of experience, but am struggling to even get a response from job apps. I am wondering if this is because of my employment gap? I don’t have my side business listed on my resume because I don’t feel like I have enough positive “stats” to report yet given it’s new. Any advice or recommendations?

Hey FishBowl Friends, so I’m currently trying to break into tech sales/FinTech and I feel that due to my previous work history, I might not look like the ideal candidate on paper but I’m an extremely fast learner and very coachable. I’ve been a manger at a gym, got my degree in finance, worked as a client advisor at a top 3 auto dealer in the nation and now I’m a project manager at a solar company. I really want something that’s remote and steady, any recommendations on how to spruce myself up?
