Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

What is the offer based on? Do you have experience in DE&I?
Being a POC (if you are) doesn’t innately qualify you for the role. There are dimensions and schools of thought behind the practice.
I’d be wary of taking on something as important as fostering inclusion and belonging if you don’t have experience. Many companies simply like to put a BIPOC in the role and then that’s that. One person can’t be responsible for changing an organization’s culture.
There is already some backlash to the notion of DE&I — and how it changes absolutely nothing — and I don’t really see it as the place to be.
Honestly - DEI positions are the first positions being laid off rn. — which is incredibly surprising to me considering what bad optics that is - but nonetheless - my DEI network are finding themselves unemployed left and right. If you are in a more “stable” revenue driven department, my recommendation is to stay put and ride this out.
This is a fad role I believe. I don't think it will last as a sustainable and foundational role.
I could be wrong and maybe it is wishful thinking but I think ESG and DEI will be profitable long term. The world is becoming more brown and both women and diverse populations are gaining more economic power. By 2030 women will own 3/4 of assets in the US. That tells me DEI and ESG is a good place to be. That being said it is a lot of crazy politics and any space or industry can be disrupted so go into something like that because you are passionate about it and want to make a difference or let someone else that is passionate about it run with it.
Could you share the source of the 3/4 of assets stat? That is amazing! I’d love to take a look.
My firm just RIF’ed the entire DEI Team despite continuously preaching its importance to the firm and clients. It just seems that the field is unfortunately a lot of lip service and in reality most firms don’t care.
So they are RIFing the dei team glad I didn’t go for it……..
DEI roles don’t being measurable value in terms of actual revenue and profits. They won’t be around long and won’t give the ppl in those roles much value for future job prospects
