I really messed up, chasing the dollar I left a great job and now I'm in one of the most toxic situations with an overbearing boss and horrible work environment. It's only been two months but I'm so miserable I've got to jump. Question - should I just pretend the last two months didn't happen or be honest with recruiters/companies about why I'm trying to leave?

Been there—and no judgment at all. You’re not alone in chasing a better paycheck and realizing it came with a cost. When I left a toxic job after just a few months, I was honest without oversharing: “The role wasn’t aligned with what was discussed, and I’m looking for something more sustainable.” Most recruiters get it.

I’m sorry you’re going through this! I’d suggest being honest with recruiters, but focus on what you’ve learned from the experience and what you’re looking for in a new role. It shows growth and self-awareness, which can work in your favor. Good luck out there!!

Be honest, you don't want to risk them finding out and completely tanking your chances of getting the job. I'm guessing most people will be able to sympathize with your experience and won't hold it against you.

Don't sweat the small stuff. It happened to me and I took it and ran with it. Try having a female boss who drunk dials you and can't remember what she did yesterday....Embrace it... Granted this was 2 yrs ago but zi used it to my advantage. Learn all you can.. Smile....and keep plugging along but never stop looking for the good thing..ALWAYS CHASE MONEY.. HAPPINESS COMES LATER !

I would chalk it up to bad luck and move on, it’s not going to get any better. I’ve been there, it’s absolutely awful and draining to live like that. I would say act like it never happened because it’s only been two months.

Be honest. They can easily do research and find out

Don't put it on your resume. Get a different job, but don't leave the horrible job until you get something else.

This happened to me. I lasted 3 months then walked out. I never put it in my resume and honestly, I wasn’t asked about the gap in my resume. If I had been I’d was prepared to answer but didn’t. However I would have said “I was fortunate enough to be in a situation where I could persue other opportunities and decided it best to focus on my own growth and goals. Investing time into a position which no longer aligned with my worth and goals didnt seem reasonable and so took the initiative to focus my attention elsewhere.”

You can try to go back to your old role

Be honest. Keep in mind, employers do reach out to former jobs to find out why you left. I struggled with the same question as I was fired just over a week ago. I decided to be honest and will see how it goes.

Honestly- I would try it (not mentioning them) at all - it’s normal now and days to have a work gap.

People who are happy that the office is dead should reconsider. If the office is dead wouldn't that mean more outsourcing and less TC forward? Isn't it short sighted to think jobs will stay in the US if they are remote considering how expensive it is to hire here?

My company blames my generation for not being able to hire everyday. “You guys don’t want to work” coming from some overweight, racist, old coaster. I’ve barely taken any days off this year and pick up “skeleton crew” days any chance I get. I was able to work out a deal with my company before I came because of prior experience luckily, but they offer a terrible base salary and sham of a commission structure to new hires + no remote. Then sit here and can’t figure out why…

I left my job about a year ago to relocate, make sure it was the right decision and start a side business in the mean time. Now I’m actively looking for a new sales position, have tons of experience, but am struggling to even get a response from job apps. I am wondering if this is because of my employment gap? I don’t have my side business listed on my resume because I don’t feel like I have enough positive “stats” to report yet given it’s new. Any advice or recommendations?
