I received an email today from a recruiter saying they think I’d be a great fit for a role as a Senior Tax preparer. I’ve never worked with taxes nor do I hold a CPA. My background is squarely within analysis and insurance, which you could STRETCH to include litigation management as an overall background. WHY would a recruiter send this? Why does it happen so often? Wouldn’t it look bad on them to recommend the wrong candidate and waste everyone’s time? How did it get to me? Info harvest scam?

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.
Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.

I just had two of the weirdest interview. I was interviewing for a payroll systems mgmt role and the first guy was a finance mgr and he didn't ask me anything. I basically interviewed him. The 2nd interviewer was the hr systems lead. She had read my resume and was super weirded out that my current role is the same as hers. I think she thought I was interviewing to replace her. She kept asking me what I would be doing. Like dude, do you not know why you are even interviewing me? Hard pass.
