I’m 63 and have years of experience bartending and serving. I see the ageism happening every day I go to an interview. The jobs are there. Then I hear managers complain that the young ones don’t want to work. If they are at work, they’re on their phones. People in our age group actually put in a days work for our money. I don’t look my age, I run circles around young ones. I finally got a part time job in retail recently, but have to get another job as well. Can’t live on 5-15 hours a week. I’m sorry for your recent experience. Hang in there. 😊
My friend please don't be disappointed with the outcome stay focused and positive. Like you I have had a very similar experience in trying to find work. However I have found a absolute brilliant job. And all the guys there are awesome. I am 64 and like you I can and do run rings around youg one's.There is work out there for you. All things happen for a reason. Your time will come. ! Please don't forget you are better than you know. And will be more than appreciated in your next role. I genuinely wish you the best of luck.
Happy Fourth! 🇺🇸 Glad you found work. Gives me hope!
250 years 🇺🇸🎆🎇and counting! (Not me… 😂)

As was already said, timing of your application has absolutely nothing to do with anything once you've been selected to interview. There are varying trains of thought on whether it's better to interview first or last, both having their potential upside (being able to set the benchmark versus recency bias).
I've interviewed for a couple jobs recently where I would be a perfect fit, one of the roles I actually was in for over 4 years before my latest role. I interviewed first for one, went last for the other, and got neither job. At 49 I can't help but think that my age played a factor, perhaps if only subconsciously , though I have no idea what other applicants brought to the table, an existing relationship being something I cannot prepare for or compete with.

Jobs are typically not awarded on a first come first serve basis… it could be the compensation you asked for… I don’t think your age had anything to do with it, that’s more prevalent in roles where the firm has to put significant training expense into you knowing that you are towards the tail end of your career…
Check with your local workforce group or a lawyer, you may have a discrimination case based on ageism .
