So I have family situation I've been dealing with and yesterday at a company function outside the office, my supervisor brought it up in front of a bunch of people. First of all highly inappropriate, but also it's nobody's business. She's made comments before outside of work about how her boss is gay, blah blah blah. I'm just at a loss. Should I report it to HR? And if I do, how do I do it without it being known that it came from me??

I've been working at this company for about 3.5 weeks now. Its been great so far.

We have an org chart in our dashboard ATS/HRIS and so I clicked on my first day buddies name just for fun.

I was able to see her entire employee file..even her address. I was really freaked out and I went to another profile and the same thing happened, I was able to see this person's emergency contact. I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

What’s the worst mistake you’ve made at work? Sent something with a boneheaded mislinking error to a client today and feel less than great.

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. For context I’ve been in company less than a year and there are people who have been in the company 25yrs. I’m thinking of cutting loose before it gets to my turn.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.

What is the advice on what feedback to leave for a peer who really sucks at everything y'all have worked together on? It's about the time where everyone on my team requests feedback from each other and I'm nervous for it coming up. My manager knows that everything I've worked w her on I end up doing 90% of the work when it's meant to be split so it is a known issue. We're both at level 3 so are genuinely peers. A partner I work for keeps asking for ETA's on assignments I have already submitted to the senior associate on the deal for review. Does it sound like I'm throwing the senior associate under the bus if I say I have already submitted to senior associate and am waiting for feedback? I feel like the partner will get upset at me even more if my answer sounds like I haven't submitted the assignment to the senior associate yet.

What’s your ideal realatinoship with your SE Manager? What style of leadership do you prefer from them?

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

Have you been fired before even starting your new job?

I signed for a new job two months ago and will start next month (3 mo notice period in Europe). They were very keen on getting me on-board ASAP before signing but since I signed the contract it has been silent from the new employee. I've emailed them with questions as I'll be re-locating to NL and it takes them 1-2 weeks to reply. Given all that's going on in the world, I'm worried they might fire me before I even start.

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.

How do you explain to a interviewer that you are leaving your job because your new boss doesn't treat you well/fairly?

Having trouble landing a decent job, I am 4 years post bachelors, environmental science. I can not seem to land a job above minimum wage. A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

Ok NOW I can finally say I passed all four parts of the CPA exam. I can’t even begin to tell you all how hard of a journey this has been for me and how much sleep I’ve lost throughout these past few months. It was all worth it though. I see people are announcing they passed on LinkedIn so just practicing again until I finally do.
