Sort of a dumb comment by the HR team but then why would you apply a job that’s so much below your salary expectations?
“I expected possibly a little bit lower, but not that much”. You had no chips to bargain with but acted like you did. You had experience but were not employed. No leverage whatsoever to negotiate. At least it’s a lesson learned.

Depends on the attitude of manager really, but I would certainly have hired you because you would already be familiar with the systems and processes (often the upskilling is the main risk\cost in hiring).

Depends on what you were asking compared to what they can offer/afford and what the other applicants have to offer and are asking for. It could be any number of reasons also.
I know managers that want people with less experience so they can train them the “right way” (their way). If you have 25 years experience you are probably set in your way.
Maybe it is a diversity issue. They may need to hire someone of a certain group, this does happen.

They probably wanted you to work for them, but for less salary than what you were paid. Don't contact them again, and continue to find one with your salary expectations.
No. Has nothing to do with your wanting her job. Has everything to do with you asking for more money than they are willing to pay. Even if you negotiated down to an acceptable pay rate, they would worry that you would use the job as a stop gap while looking for something more in line with your compensation requirements.
No, the hiring manager just didn't lik.e you and like.d someone else. Also, I wouldn't rehire someone who previously left.
I'm in a similar situation. I left my company 23 years ago on good terms and have had 2 interviews or positions that I am over qualified for. I've gained more experience and I've been an FA since I left. I was told I wanted too much. I'd be making less than when I left. She asked where did I see myself in 6 months, I tried to assure her that I'd still be in that position and contributing to the team but that when I did have that job my goal was not to remain in that position forever and I always had goals outside of that department. This was my 2nd interview for 2 positions that I'd held in the past, that I'm definitely overqualified for. The proverbial elephant in the room. I'm not going to leave the company like Gen Z so I'm just confused.
PS.. I left to be a stay at home mother and haven't had a full time job since I worked for them. I self sponsored for all of my licenses sie, 63, 65, life health annuities in past 6 months. oh well?
