I recently signed an offer at a smallish privately-held company. The culture seems great and from the hiring process I got good vibes all around. Comp is competitive but no bonus/equity yet. They’re profitable but I’ve only worked at large public companies so I’m a bit scared.

Right after, I heard back from a role I had applied at Roku and a recruiter from Amazon also contacted me. Should I take the interviews? I know it’s just a screen but since I already accepted the other offer I’m unsure.

No harm in seeing what else is out there. We have at-will employment for a reason.

@director1 do you have an opinion on amazons other teams (Kindle, Consumer/B2B retail and Prime Video)?

No harm in discussing the opportunities. Why no bonus in your new role?

They said that it’s across the board for the legal team. GC prefers not to tie comp to performance and instead offer higher base.

Hello - thinking of starting a small side coaching practice. Could use a bit of help because I've never thought about opening a side hustle but times are tough with two kids in college.

1. What is the best approach to collecting your fee? Each session? Pay the package cost upfront,? Other, and if so, what is it?
2. How do you collect it? Venmo? Credit card?
3. Do you have to register your business?

Thank you in advance for any guidance.

I’m in discussions to become the GC of a mid size but international company that does ~$1 billion in annual revenue. Smallish legal department. They’ve asked for my comp expectations. I don’t have specific expectations but I want to be compensated at least market for a NYC based GC (which looks like cash comp of at least $300k plus bonus, etc). Any suggestions on how people would respond?

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?

Big law specialist with an offer to be the CFO and GC of a 250M AUM hedge fund. All in comp would probably be ~$300k, so about $100k less than where I would be in big law (including bonus). Potential to get involved in the business side, but most likely more of a back office role (I would also be the only legal hire - main goal would be cutting outside legal cost and streamlining processes). Does this sound like an attractive offer? What exit options would I have?
