Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Negotiate if you feel you deserve more. Don’t just negotiate because some silly goose said “always negotiate.”
1) You have to justify your request with evidence of merit.
2) Verify if their offer is in alignment with market. If it is…maybe ask for other stuff like PTO/WFH etc,
Most companies I’ve worked for have a promotion policy where it follows a specific guideline. For example, lateral is x amount (or none) and promotion is x% or they get you to minimum.
I personally have never negotiated an internal transfer
yeah, i mean if this were a promo i'd def expect an increase but lateral when i am happy with my comp, i was ok not even trying.
I can remember being told to always negotiate anything that can be negotiated. And that's good as a general rule. But like all rules, there can be exceptions, and your case sounds like a good example of that. There's something to be said for knowing when not to rock the boat.
yeah, that's how i felt. i'm also moving into a role that i have no past experience in, but with greater career growth potential. i'm just happy they're taking me tbh.
I agree with you. I think you made the right move, especially if you are content with your current comp. Nothing wrong with asking for an increase at your next review.
I try to but also feel the pressure to not. Nothing wrong with advocating for yourself in my opinion!
I always inquire, share valid data points and open the dialogue. I never want to think what if..
