I see a lot of talk about pivoting into startups and I’m genuinely interested, but how do you actually get noticed by one? I feel like half of them don’t even post jobs, and when they do, it’s vague as hell. I’ve applied to a few roles with strong matches and heard nothing. Is it all just closed networks? Or are there practical steps for someone from public to actually break into a startup without already being in the club?

Senior engineer making 135k and I was offered a promotion to engineering manager after completing a development plan. Near the end of the plan and I expect compensation talks to start soon. Based on some research around Boston and my role in the company, I feel 165k plus 10-15% bonus is fair. Nonetheless, first time going through something like this and asking for thoughts and comments. LinkedIn is a garbage app where I can’t even post my opinion or experience because it will go against the mainstream ideologies. If I even “like” a post then I worry that my peers and managers see what I like and suddenly I need inclusivity training. What a load of shit! You can’t be who you truly are on that app. Which is why I like fishbowl so much, the anonymity is a game changer. If LinkedIn was a anonymous, we’d see a lot more support for Kanye and a lot less LGBQT material. Bet!
