I so relate to this thought from J.Clear. In my heavily political, uncertain & competitive work environment, stakeholders side with those they perceive as more influential & powerful. That's it. Every perspective I give is discarded, meetings consist on being told & scolded.
"People often care about belonging more than they care about accuracy. We don't always believe things because they are factually correct. In many cases, we cling to beliefs that make us look good to the people we care about.

…and that’s exactly how organizations stagnate. Sometimes the loudest voice is against your goals. A real leader considers all perspectives and makes decisions based on information not personal agendas.

I agree. We have a very loud voice (known for being disrespectful to lower level colleagues, but who delivers good results for the leadership and that's what matters) that doesn't have our best group's best interest in mind but is influential and drags others along even with flawed, short-sighted arguments

The voice of influential is heard, why do you think they are called “influential”???? They can influence and you can’t.

It’s hard to be the one who sticks out. There are even entire countries where it’s difficult to have a different viewpoint.

You know, I read this super interesting study where people were asked to wear headphones and tap along to the beat of super popular songs (that everyone knows). A listener, without headphones, was asked to guess. They hardly ever guessed correctly.

What seems blatantly obvious to us, is rarely obvious to others.

So while you may be correct and while they may also be acting dismissively toward your ideas, I’d ask if they are truly understanding you. If they truly understand you and aren’t entertaining your ideas, that might be a you problem. If they don’t understand and are dismissing your ideas, that’s still a you problem.

I’ve been in your shoes when I was earlier in my career. In my opinion, the only sure way to get your ideas to stick is to generate alot of them and explain it at the level of a toddler

I have a Deloitte PDM offer. I’ve read about the positives/negatives and I’m so torn. When my recruiter says I’ll have “144 hours” of PTO (18 days), will I definitely still run into the utilization trap of not being able to take it? Are all projects 40-42 hr weekly caps? Third question: I’m new in the DC area, are PDMs invited to firm socials? Trying to make friends! Thanks in advance

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
