If that’s the case wouldn’t the reports have the same flaws as they do currently but just auto generated? Unless the data is being manually corrected; in which case they may want you to fix that as well.
First step would be to determine if it’s being manually corrected, if not are the flaws present currently? Also ask do they report end users even care? I would raise these questions and work with the end users to determine what their expectations are.
The flaws stem from how data is inputted. It is manually inputted by colleagues, which is where the flaw is created.
Pro
What type of flaws?
Inconsistent data mainly is what I can see right now for some reports. There is blanks, misspelled words in fields, etc.
What tools do you have access to?
I have access to anything I need to create a clean, automation process for reports.
What are the flaws and what are the fixes?
If both of those are predictable then the fixes can be automated.
My real concern would be why the reporting is flawed. Are you getting bad data from your sources? If so that feels like it should be fixed in the upstream systems rather than being manipulated in the reporting
Gotta fix the data consistency first before it can be automated. These kind of initiatives often times expose these kind of flaws in systems.
That is correct, I was told this issue was created over time as well by my colleagues. It will be an ongoing process but just wanted some guidance and advice in general.
