I stumbled over R1 MBB case in the math portion. Had to redo my numbers a few times times, but I feel confident on the rest and even my process to calculate the math. Something about long multiplication during that caused my brain to not work.

Assuming I did well on the rest of the interview, how much of a deal breaker is that?

Why were you doing long multiplication? If the numbers are ugly round them up or down so they’re easy to multiply in your head, and then adjust the answer up or down to accommodate. You should be able to consistently get within 5% of the actual answer with practice. And then just ask the interviewer if it’s okay to round them or if they want precise numbers. Buys you the time to do the math properly if they actually care.

I guess there's my issue then. I should have clarified that with my interviewer. Thanks

Just tell them it’s silly to do maths. IRL you have the bots doing that for you

Yeah but chances are good your interviewer will want you to do the math

Structuring the math > calculations. You having to redo a few times isn’t great, but if the rest really went well, then I’d say you’re ok

Messed up my numbers in my final round case and then caught my mistake and fixed it. You should be fine if the other parts went well!

Hi all,
I’m currently working for a small technical consulting start-up firm. I make good money, have great benefits, and they seem very happy with the work I’m doing, so I know I could move up quickly. However, tech consulting is definitely not my dream job. I want to get into data analytics, and I have an offer from a big company to do just that. I’ve only been at my current company for about 8 months, but I don’t ever see myself loving this job. How do I know when it’s time to make a change?
