I swear email is trying to kill me. I log on at 8am and already have 40 unread, 15 marked urgent, and 3 passive-aggressive forwards asking why I haven’t responded. Half of it could’ve been a two-second Teams chat, and the other half should never have been sent at all. I spend more time triaging inbox chaos than actually doing legal work. How do you tame the flood without looking like you’re ignoring people?

Quick responses mean a LOT. ("Hi X, Thank you and will do. Best, Y) (can add, due to multiple urgent matters it may take me until Z to complete this). Keep track of when people are expecting things, and if you need more time hit them with a quick note before they email you. These two simple things will handle 90% of the optics.

They should ban the urgent ❗️from law offices. The most toxic individuals abuse that feature.

You just have to prioritize what needs to be dealt with right away and get to that. And just throw yourself into it. There's something to be said for just having an email frenzy and getting a lot of it done. The more I think about it sitting there the bigger the burden of it gets in my head. It's easier to just get it done.

Maybe litigation is different. We have only one paralegal in our team so we know his workload. When he’s super busy, he would tell all junior associates if he doesn’t respond within an hour or if we have some urgent requests, message him on Teams for a quick response. See if you can do same.

I take the first hour of my day for emails and try to do at least am hour st end of shift. Throughout the day if I hear my notification, I only respond to my attorneys. Depending on the task at end, my attorneys don't wait longer than 5 minutes for me to respond
But I do work with the four most amazing, intelligent, and challenging attorneys, ever!

Is there such place as non toxic ID firm? Or does any of ID attys like what they do? I moved from general practice to an ID firm six months ago. Biggest mistake of my life. I am trying hard not to just quit and walk away as I’m battling head cold but still have to bill bill bill and get criticized for not billing right and etc and cases being piled up - while everyone is looking forward to the long weekend. I seriously question my judgement. Need word of wisdom just to get through this hellhole

Got two offers: one from a V100 firm that is essentially the best in the practice area that I’m in. The other is a mid-sized that is offering approximately 33% more in base comp, but don’t have much of a rep in my practice area. Which should I take? What else should I consider?

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. I work until 7p at least every night. Top 10 family law firm.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Hey, does anyone work for Jacobowitz Newman Tversky? Would love to know more about the office and culture .

So I’ve been with a court for a while and honestly the pay sucks compared to what paralegals should be making… the benefits are great though and they match my retirement 100% now that I’m vested at 3 years.I have 4 kids and 1 is getting ready for college. I feel like the benefits are great but I’d rather make more now. I am a previous LEO for 4 years who switched to paralegal so I have my leo retirement. Paralegals here make $28 with no benefits what is a good compromise
