Memorizing formulas is like memorizing the dictionary. The real skill is in knowing where to go and how to build a formula. And google... using Google to find someone who has already asked that question and gotten a formulas :D
Wait till you find out about index match and index match match
MBBD!
Keep this crap to yourself... Sincerely, your colleagues
I honestly can't believe there are consultants who don't know vlookups
@BCG1 haha...probably won't. I avoid excel at all costs. Just don't get on projects that require me to use it.
That's incredible
Not knowing excel will bite you eventually. It's like not knowing how to spell. Sure you can survive but you'll look like an idiot.
@bcg2 completely disagree. You don't have know excel to survive in consulting. I don't enjoy heavy data analysis, so I don't do it and I don't get staffed on projects that do because that's not why I'm here.
@D1 I do the exact opposite. Whenever I have a call with someone who wants to staff me, I let them know that I don't do data analysis...which is fine because those aren the projects I'm working on.
I watch the YouTube video every time. Luckily, I have BAs/SCs now which means no more excel for me.
Honestly, not to be too mean, but this is why more than 40% of jobs are projected to disappear over the next 20-30 years- you're gonna be automated :/
@KPMG2 and I would forget it as soon as the exercise was complete
A few members on my current team are from Human Capital, and the MANAGER was visibly frightened when she found out she needed to do a vlookup...
^Throw an ISNA or ISERROR in there after the if(
What is hard about vlookup I've never understood this
You don't give yourself enough credit, OP. Force yourself to use it on a weekly basis and you'll never forget it. Even if it isn't for work, I download.CSV files from investment sites to build fun dashboards and find opportunities. It's exciting when you master 1 formula. It's addictive as you add new ones.
Watched a Senior Consultant YouTube how to insert rows in excel. Person has15+ years of working experience. Also this person got hired for a role that is 70% in excel...
Probly one of those things you say on a more anonymous setting
