I think it's absolutely wild that something as absurd and honestly unhealthy as 996 is making its way back. I know it's more prevalent in the tech scene, but I wanted to ask recruiters if there are signs of such a culture creeping into the advertising space. I wouldn't be all that surprised because even with a 9-5, I sometimes feel like we're expected to be available till about 9PM.

Agencies aren’t doing 996 outright, but you're right about the “always on” mindset. I don't know if it's creeping back or always has been there, but I'm noticing that the ability to work long hours is important. Especially with client deadlines and global teams. If you’re interviewing, pay attention to turnover rates and how leaders talk about “passion” or “grind.” That usually signals where the balance actually stands.

Working Moms/Dads: Do in-house positions exist with flex time hours? I need to be able to leave work at 4pm to pick up my son from daycare, but i can get back online at home to resume any unfinished work at 8pm. Is this realistic to convey to any companies in an interview? Pandemic aside, is face time 9-7pm really important? Or should i just try to find a job with a salary that covers a nanny salary and accept that i will never see my son on weekdays (which would be sad for both of us)? TIA!

Tech company lay offs….are they soon to be inevitable?!

There is lots of companies really taking a hit in the tech space. Is this something that people are nervous about? Many seem to still be having a hiring push but with the button falling (IMO this is still just start we have a long way to go to bottom out) will that halt and layoffs ensue? And if so, which depts do you think will get hit the hardest?

Anyone have insight to what the plan is at UpStart for example?

Started a new job search about 2 weeks ago. Of the 14 recruiter screening calls I’ve gone through, all went amazingly well, and I’ve only heard back at all from 4 since the calls. Why?

When you hear the title “consumer product manager” vs “product marketing manager”what job responsibilities do you assume each person has? Or do they seem the same? There has been some confusion internally for a new team/role and wanted to get a check from all of you on perception!

I’ve noticed that HR, when explaining why a candidate didn’t get the job, tend to lean on “You’re great, but we had candidates with more experience in [skill relevant to the job].” I do believe this is true in some cases, but it can’t possibly be for all of them.

HR folks — what feedback have you obscured by offering that line instead?
