I told paralegal/supervisor I feel ready to have more responsibilities (other than scanning/filing 40 hrs a week) and wanted to be more involved as a team as I've been here 9 months and was assured I could 'work my way up' to being paralegal.

Her response? Deflection, she asked "What is your motivation behind that?" I said "I want to work as a team so I can learn more."
She told me maybe next year.

I've shown I'm a good worker. Is she just not wanting me to encroach on her terf?

Ask for a career path plan, an outline of what she expects you to accomplish/skills to acquire in order to move up. It should include yearly goals for you to meet (benchmarks) and descriptions of what it means to meet those goals or what exceeding those goals would look like. It’s something you and your manager should draft together so you understand the expectations. If she declines to offer you a clear, measurable path, she has no interest in helping you do anything more than what you’re already doing (reason why she’s blocking you doesn’t matter). You would have to go around her to move up, but that can have its own career pitfalls. If you can’t get her to commit to a written plan, you should start quietly looking for another job that could offer you growth.

I second everything M1 said above.
While doing the documentation, try not to appear to be a threat to her job. You're playing a long game and so you have to be strategic. However this plays out, I strongly suggest you start looking for a new job.

Hi All- I’m looking for a super simple time tracking platform to integrate with Asana for a team of 5. All we need it for is to see how much time is going into different projects that our department is managing. That’s it. No billing/invoicing/don’t care about time sheets, etc. We just need the ability to track and pull a report at the end of each month. Anyone have recommendations?

Dyslexia! After having our kindergartener son tested (privately) related to ADHD, we were told he may have dyslexia too (which would explain why he struggles so much with phonics but is amazing at sight words). He has a very high IQ. How many married professionals with young families are just sticking it out “for the kids”? Marriage is very dead and has been for a while. Young kids 4 and 1. My wife and I don’t fight, but share 0 interests outside of the kids and can’t stand to be around each other. I’m so ready to leave… I just can’t bear the thought of doing it to my children even though another part of me feels like wife and I would both be better parents if our lives were separate. Hey! I’m new here and would like some input. I’ve been working in a new position for almost 5 months. In that time I’ve witnessed some unethical and lots of unprofessional behavior. There are so many major issues in this company that I don’t know if I want to subject my mental health to this degree of toxicity. I just don’t know how to move forward from here.
