Anyone that has been in the industry for a while has definitely been there. For me, a "quick edit" was a complete rewrite of a nearly 5000-word article. That one is still gets under my skin when I think about it.
I feel that. A 5000-word “quick edit” is brutal. I had a smaller one that still drained me for days, and it sticks with you. Makes you question how people define “quick.”
You nailed it. It seems like its never actually quick to be honest with you.
Exactly. I laugh now whenever someone says it. Quick almost always means the opposite in this industry.
The only thing quick was the time it took to message you about rewriting it!
That is so true. The ask is instant, but the rewrite eats up hours. Happens way too often.
I once had a “quick edit” turn into a two-week saga with 14 back-and-forth rounds. By the end, it was basically a brand new piece no one recognised. Do you push back on scope creep, or just ride it out?
Fourteen rounds sounds painful. I had one drag on for weeks too, and it ended up nothing like the original. I try to push back now, otherwise it never ends.
