Plenty of strat roles client side; more in ‘marketing planning’ or ‘customer strategy’ than classical brand and campaign strategy.
That’s what I’m referring to, a lot of my current work deals with creative output and not just comms.
I think it all depends on the brand and how they in-house or outsource the work. In my experience, most of the advertising or brand work gets outsourced to agencies while lower funnel work is in housed. Sometimes you’ll need internal strategists to help shape that work, otherwise the marketing managers end up writing the client briefs and brief either internal or external creatives. Usually strategy and execution go hand-in-hand brand side.
Worked in strategy at agencies for 10 years and am now brand side. I don’t think I “gave up” any skills for the role, so not sure what you mean by that.
Do you mind me asking what your role is and what kind of strategist you were? I’m currently writing creative briefs for commercial and social campaigns.
What I mean is, do you find it more coming up with the insights vs managing a project, for example.
There’s lots of brand strategy roles client side but it’s very competitive right now. I’ve been unemployed for a long time. But the good news for you is when I look up the hiring managers most have agency background and when I look up a few months later to see who was hired it’s usually an agency person.
