As a mid level who just got promoted.
Some tips:
just act like a mid.
Start mentoring interns.
Be proactive.
Involve yourself in pitches.
Prove you can write scripts and decks (even if they aren’t that great yet)
Also, a mentor of mine told me, what makes you a mid is your book and experience. If you just want a raise, just ask for more money. The worst thing is to be a mid and not be ready for it.
Bye
I second all the tips^
Do the work
Do proactive work
Proactive ideas is tough because the goal is to try and win the agency/client an award. 9/10 it’s not going to get selected since the bar is so high. However it does do a couple things that work in your favour. 1. It helps you to strengthen your skills so when you do get a good brief those muscles are warm. 2. Shows your bosses that your eager and allows them to see your creativity even though it may not happen on your day to day work. 3. You could possible when an award or have some great spec work to add to your profile.
My agency encourages proactive thinking so it’s helped me a lot but everywhere Is different.
You’ll be fine for your next review so long as you are doing your job well. But keep in mind that raises are very minimal at usually 3% of salary. And that’s if they have money to give out that year. Good luck to you!
10-15% is usually for promotions, unless it’s very senior leadership, which can be more. Annual raises are more in line with 3% (up to 5% if you’re lucky). $6k might not seem like a lot for one person but managers are usually given a set amount of money to disperse amongst the entire team. And trust me, it’s not a lot. I wish it were different but unfortunately that’s the norm. Not sure who told you to except at least 10% but I def wouldn’t count on that. Still wishing you luck!
I have a 30 second spot that everyone compliments, one spot doesn’t do as much as you think.
