I think you are thinking too much. As soon as I start to think “should I tell x this so they don’t tell y that” I realize I am trying to control things that are beyond my control.
Keep working hard for your new firm.
Perfect advice!

When I was let go years ago, I just flat out told everyone I was let go and nobody cared. Also, pretty sure HR has a rule they can’t confirm or deny circumstances of you leaving
Did you lie? If you did not lie, then I wouldn’t worry about it.
I didn’t lie, I was let go with some time to find a new job so I told them I am still employed. So guess that doesn’t count as lie?
I was let go but I told my new employer and it’s not a big city and tax is even smaller world but I saw a girl been let go by at least three firms and it’s still find a tax senior role in another firm so I assume nobody cares🥲
If the partner at your current firm cared that much about why you left, they would have done their due diligence and checked with his buddy at your prior firm.
I think you should be good.
I don’t think you did anything wrong. Does the mid-size not hire people who were let go or something? Sounds like it’s their problem if they didn’t ask you during interviews. Plus I’m sure your ex-Partner is smart enough to not speak on that.
No you are fine, good luck!
I think the input above might be the best advice you’ll get but I’ll add a couple thoughts.
Were you asked in the interview? If you were asked and were not honest in your answer you might have an issue. If you were not asked or answered candidly during the interview then you have nothing to worry about.
Not speculating, been there. Came up in the interview and responded candidly. (Just didn’t see eye to eye with the top dog.)
Echoing most of the comments. Think you're overthinking.
People get laid off all the time in PA and if the partners are friends the partner probably already knows and didn’t need to ask you about it. We’re accountants we usually know how to find information if we really wanted to.
Deloitte has a policy that they are not allowed disclose this type information. If it happens get yourself lawyers. Lol
I think hr will not disclose that info but even employees are not allowed to disclose to friends?😅maybe it’s only worthy to sue the partner or sue deloitte for allowing employees to disclose info.
Why would you care if your ex partner tells your partner about you being let go? Let the past be just that, the past, and move on. Maybe you should hope that your ex partner tells your partner that you were let go so you can prove your former employees is a loss for letting you go.
Let it go. Good luck!
