I watched a really interesting YouTube video that I’m still reflecting on. The affluence that built Silicon Valley from the ground up was actually defense and it was during wartime. Stanford had an edge on developing cutting edge technology to aide the war and that’s why vc funds started popping up in that area. I have now been asked to design an architecture for an upcoming project, and document it all. Nothing at this company has been well documented before. So, I've realised there's a problem with developers, a lot of them are coders, not engineers. And another issue, is that, companies don't really care about their progression as far as I'm aware, so what did you guys do in your own time to transition from being a coder to an engineer?

I just got a job offer for an Entry Level Software Engineer at Boeing in Saint Louis. The salary is $82,000 with an $8,000 sign on bonus. I was hoping for an offer closer to 90k base and I don’t care too much for a sign on bonus. However, this is a lot more than what I’m making now, and would be my first SWE job. Should I counter? Late 30’s with a couple of kids. Is it worth it for me to seek a CS degree at this time/soonish? I’m not afraid of the extra work, and would go part time. Wondering if the eventual payoff would worth the effort. Will I level up quicker? Employer has partial tuition reimb.
