I think the public has gotten fed up with tipping in general. Places like yours, which have always gotten tips, are probably being punished because of that. There are viral videos of self-serve kiosks that ask for tips, and when people see enough of that stuff they really do turn against the whole idea. And, all the bad economic news now just adds to that, people are just naturally less inclined to part with their cash.
At my place it feels like tipping has stayed pretty steady, maybe even a little better lately. I think some people are still really generous, especially regulars who appreciate good service. It might just depend a lot on the day or the crowd.
Yeah it's tipping fatigue big time and it sucks the most for those of us that rely on tips to pay our bills. Regulars where I work are still pretty solid, but overall tips have definitely dropped. I think people are just feeling stretched thin right now with prices going up everywhere. It’s frustrating, but it feels like part of the new normal lately.

Yeah it’s kind of sad for sure. People rely on tips!
Same thing here. I think there's a lot of pushback on tipping culture right now. Which I honestly kind of get - I know I'm not "serving" the customer the same way a waitress does, so I never expect anyone to tip, though it's obviously appreciated when they do.
Of course. People are broke. Like, broke broke. Restaurant prices all keep increasing because of inflation but pay and salaries aren't increasing to match that. People still want to use their little extra to treat themselves and even support a local business, but every dollar matters. They don't necessarily have enough left over to pay the staff's wages that the restaurant refuses to pay fairly. The alternative, which we're getting closer to, is people not eating out at all.

Yeah that is soooo on point!
This is why I learned a trade so I wouldn’t have to be a server
in general, don't expect tips, then you'll be happy with whatever tips you get, just my thoughts. Tips and overtime should never be used as a basis for budget income.
