The salary is higher because we pay nearly as much taxes as you (at this salary level, around 30% to your 40%) but don't get even 1/5th the benefits.
We have to pay those taxes, pay extra for healthcare insurance, and then still pay for healthcare for example). We don't get as much time off, or the same parental care benefits. Oh and forget about retirement benefits.
So yeah, there's a reason for the gap, and I'm not sad there are rules that make it difficult for foreigners to come in and push out salaries down.
To be honest, I'd rather prefer your system, but don't want to leave my loved ones behind and move.
Also home prices are a big reason for the difference. With our home and mortgage system, to get a good home, that is constructed as well as homes are in Germany (solid materials, solid build), you'd have to pay over 2 million in tech hub areas. I've been looking at 1.5m homes in the Boston area (1hr radius) that are built like shit
Thank you for the input
It’s not that simple. You can’t just register as a freelance to get hired by US companies. You’ll have to be a US citizen or you must also meet certain visa status such as H1B or TN, etc. You might qualify as a contractor and earn more but you’ll have to join a contractor vendor in your country.

I think you'll get the point..
Even if you could you would pay taxes in the US and Germany. Pay is also location specific in the US so if your looking at San Fran or NYC salaries look at smaller cities. They can make 25% less
