You passed, so yes. If they had someone that passed with flying colors, why would they be offering it to you?
You know what they call a C average medical school graduate? Doctor.
Mentor
Agree with JPMC1. For example, you need to differentiate when talking about Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley rather than just JP Morgan.
I would reject the offer if told this.
I was thinking the same thing. Seems like a way to get you to accept a lowball and not complain about it bc you “should be grateful” they even gave you a shot since you “barely made it.” 🙄
Idk how I would feel being told that tbh. Kind of a sneak diss
Yeah why would the recruiter even tell you that. So mean. I wouldn’t want to work there.
In this market, absolutely
Seriously - everyone being WFH & all interviews being video calls makes interviewing so convenient.
Coach
I would tell the recruiter that he/she hasn’t passed and neither has the company. Next!
Damn they actually said that to you?
Barely passed what? A test? I would tell them to pound sand. Who starts off a working relationship with that kind of comment?
They saw something in you that they were willing to take a “risk” and hire you! So yes negotiate! You got this!
Mentor
You’re in, negotiate the exact same way. They’ll pay in alignment with how much they want you, and if they don’t want you that much they won’t negotiate that much. Either way, it’ll be in sync.
That’s insanely rude of them. You for sure can still negotiate, like others have said it was probably a tactic to lowball you.
Enthusiast
1. For pride and ego I wouldn’t wanna work there
2. Might just mess around name exorbitant price hoping to get rejected to fulfill #1
3. If some reason they agreed with #2, then wat da heck I’ll join and prove them wrong lol
RED flag, turn down the offer
Already sounds toxic. Move on to the next opportunity.
this isnt going to end well. Run.
Coach
Yes you can. But no guarantee you will get what you ask for.

They are using the dating tactic of “negging” to give themselves a stronger position
It may be a toxic culture or just a toxic recruiter. I would recommend talking to the hiring manager and getting a feel of the culture. I recommend that you let the hiring manager know about the rude comment.
If this is coming from a third party recruiter, they are just playing their game and trying to get your just accept the offer and not risk their commission. They will tell you they are incentivized to get you a higher salary but don't believe that for a second. They care most about their relationship with the company.
If this came from a non-commission company recruiter, you may not want to push it too much.
This ^^^^^^
Hell yes. They want you, don’t they?! You don’t know if they are playing the recruiter as a negotiation tactic! Negotiate away!
Mentor
I wonder if they say that to get you to not negotiate? You could tell them based on that you’re also willing to take the risk and move over for X
