If the goal is in-house, is it better to stay at a very highly ranked firm doing general lit with some L&E work or lateral to a lower-ranked big law firm that would give me a specific L&E lit position? Neither is Chambers-ranked in L&E. Current firm is top-notch lit.

If your goal is in house employment position I think the L&E specific job would be substantially better. In house is looking for employment expertise much more than any Chambers ranking all things considered. General lit positions in house are few and far between.

Not hugely helpful, because employers want to know you can provide counseling guidance too, not just litigate cases (though ability to litigate is important).

L&E role will be more helpful for in-house.

What is your goal in house? Having worked in house, the general market is better for transactional attorneys than litigators.

like

Company’s don’t do litigation in-house. They’ll maybe hire 1 litigator to oversee outside counsel in addition to other primary duties. Those duties often look like L&E or IP.

I would try switching practice groups.

You mean go to the other firm and switch there? My current firm doesn’t have a practice group for it.

What can a junior associate do about a mid-level that constantly asks questions about things they were cc’d on, sends dozens of piecemeal emails and is generally just super high strung and needs everything right away?? No other mid-levels I’ve worked with act this way and this individual I’m working with is driving me insane and I’ve spent countless hours attaching emails and saying “as explained in the attached email…”

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).
