Depends on the partner in charge, team, matter, etc. It’s not really possible to make a generalization about the entire litigation department across all offices.
That said, my experience has been positive. Those who wanted to or were willing to work weekends had work to do. Others who were less interested in working weekends generally were not pushed to do so except when truly necessary. The partner wannabes would work them much more often than the rest of us.
Time off was similar. For those that projected that you didn’t want to work during your vacation then these folks were generally not pushed. But if you displayed willingness to work during vacation or didn’t set any boundaries around vacation then maybe the experience was less positive.
All in all I’d say much better WLB experience than peer firms, based on my anecdotal experience and talking to others etc.

Thank you! I’d be interested in the ip litigation team in case that’s the group you’re in or if you had some insight into that practice. Does management discuss where you are in relation to peers billing? For example do you know what associates are billing yearly on average?

Not my group and really no insight specific to them. Sorry.
