If you are not married or without your own family, would you move back with your parents if you have been laid off? Or would you dip into savings / unemployment to keep the lights on?

Dont be ashamed to move back. Family is there for a reason.

I am Asian and I do not feel comfortable moving back with parents again. Again depends on the family!

What do you mean “dip into unemployment?” It’s there for you for just this reason. I’d collect regular unemployment, see how much I need to adjust my lifestyle, and try my best not to live with parents. Depends how old you are though

They ask about your severance amount and timeline in your unemployment questionaire. You still are able to collect after the period of your severance payments are over. I believe that you still can get the full time period of unemployment payments (6months) whether you have severance or not, but can’t quite recall (this happened to me in 2013). So if your severance was 6 weeks, you would apply to unemployment immediately but they wouldn’t pay you until week 7 but you could still collect for 6 months after week 6.

With corona and wfh, I just moved back to my parents because they live in suburbs and have a large house. So much more fun stuff to do here than my tiny studio. I’m 29 if that makes any difference.

Move back home - without question! 🙄

like

if it wasn’t for corona maybe I would stay in my city in my own place but now? what would be the point if you can’t even leave the house

I haven’t been laid off and have been living with my parents for 2 years. Please go back home!

Lol I'm still employed but moved back in with my parents for COVID wfh. It's much much better than being alone in my house for 3 months.

Moved out of my apartment yesterday and back with my parents... no reason to be paying rent if I don’t have to. Plus in NY 70% of business services people without a family left the city so no social network there anyways

Lease was done just got lucky with that timing wish I had something better to offee
