Did the smart & difficult boss for 15 years, I’d take the easy going one that enjoys what he’s doing & accepts themselves right where they are. One that doesn’t take themselves so seriously. That boss has the ability to lighten up & laugh with you while still producing what they need to live on comfortably. And the bonus is that you don’t dread going to work everyday.
I agree 1000%.
At this point in my career, I’d rather take the kind one. If I were earlier or hungrier in my career, I could definitely see the brilliant one as a good opportunity. Right now, though, I would prefer slow and steady.
Kind. Always prefer kind. I hate having a manager that is difficult to get along with. It gives me too much anxiety.
Good point. I didn’t think of it from different timeframes.
Mediocre but kind, for me. I have never worked for a brilliant boss, but I’ve worked for several who thought they were. It wasn’t fun.
I have worked for a few who were smarter than average. They were always kind, too.
