I’d be headed back into the office, being unemployed right now isn’t for the faint of heart.
I'd go to work and make me being in-person a inconvenience as much as possible. I'd point out when it would make more sense or be kinder to allow wfh, and assume the same freedoms wfh gives (like leaving early for appointments etc).
I'm not gonna pretend that working in the office is the same or better than wfh. We all know. And I'd want leadership to see how their choices are having real, negative impacts on people's lives. Then I'd quit and make it clear I would stay if they were wfh - so eventually they learn that common sense policies like that are what retain talent.
And they would be happy to point out how you can work for another company.
These companies aren’t here to make us happy, they’re here to make us money. Their business is negatively affected by the loss of collaboration and mentorship for young talent, among other things, that are lost with WFH.
But the biggest thing is YOU GET PAID. So you can suck it up.
You’re incredibly privileged to be able to even think that unemployment would be better than getting paid to work in an office.
Business as usual
I mean for Starbucks I get it. Baristas are the core of their workforce and can't exactly work from home. So corporate folks can show some solidarity.
That CEO’s a real gem. Slumping sales aren’t b/c corporate employees aren’t in the office. 🙄
It’s b/c it’s burnt coffee that now costs $9
