That's not true at all. It's to align the starting row numbers across different aircraft. Larger planes might have first class rows 1-2 and 1-4, so business class starts at row 5 and might go up until row 20, then premium economy starts at a slightly higher number after that, then economy might start at 31.
I would think the conditions would be enough to get people to want to get out of coach.
But I ran an airline account over 10 years ago. It’s always been about the front of the plane. That’s where the money is earned.
take a nap or ask for a second cookie. wish I had this time back.
Last month I was on a flight with no row 25. 24 yes, 26 yes, but no 25. 🤷🏼♀️

Long as we get there alive, who cares. I know what I paid for
It creates a level of consistency for operational efficiency. The forward section of aircraft can vary quite a bit across an airline’s fleet. If the main cabin starts at around the same row regardless of aircraft, it registers quickly for agents and crew when they reference your ticket. It also minimizes seat assignment shift if the aircraft changes. They also sometimes have numbering standards/skip rows to ensure the bulkhead row or over-wing exit row number is consistent.
Hotels with multiple towers consider operational efficiency when numbering rooms too, where the fifth floor of one building might have 500-540, and the fifth floor of the neighboring one skips a bunch and starts at 541-580.
This was not clear: a pair of tickets on a Delta flight from New York to Spain was purchased about 10 months in advance for premium seats in row 14, I got a message many months later apologizing and notifying me that my seats were bumped to 30-something. An Air France flight to Asia did the same thing, where my receipt said row 11 and I was also bumped to 30-something months later.
On both airlines, the seats in the 30s turned out to be the same exact seats I bought. Delta and Air France were not doing this in 2024 or even early 2025. Different airlines to different continents.

My mistake, SVP 1! Apologies. I got mixed up. Thank you
