Hi fishers! I have offer and signed contract with Deloitte UK and my start day is in the beginning of April. I need skilled worker visa, and we haven’t applied yet for that. Screening and onboarding is in progress. Immigration team doesn’t reply since reached me out 1st time. How much time does it usually needed to go through the whole process? How many days take for visa to be approved since application?Deloitte

There’s inherent discrimination in life. It’s part of life.
Sincerely,
An overweight, bald dude
I think people who are put together tend to be more favored, but not necessarily based on the looks. I disagree with the statement that there ain’t many overweighted partners…

There are definitely many overweight biglaw partners. Also, a lot of them look verrry old for their ages.
I think most of them got fat as they got rich, they didn’t start fat and old
Of course. I’m obese. I may be the fattest attorney in my 500-lawyer office. I always wonder how much more successful I’d be if I was in shape.
People trust people more if they think they’re disciplined enough to keep themselves in shape / put together.
I have to admit I fall into that same bucket—if you can’t even keep yourself together, why should I trust you on my behalf?
Not saying you have to be shredded (nor naturally good looking), but not being obese and being generally presentable are not a super high bar.
Totally agree. Most biglaw people are not conventionally attractive, but they are in relatively good shape.
100% yes - there is a “professional/corporate” image and you will go further if you meet its expectations. If you’re too far afield, like super obese, it’s almost impossible.
"I don’t really see biglaw partners being overweight" .....where do you work??
