Hi D 1 - how did u prepare for PMP and what other skills helped u reach here ?
$166k consultant. Job hopped into tech. Thankful.
Yes got the job living in Canada. I’ve only been a tech consultant for a year. Before this, I went to work at a tech company for a year and a half in support dept taking tickets from customers who are experiencing issues. Before that, I wasn’t in tech but an admin. I do have a niche though, so that helps.
Pivoted from Pharma to Fintech and making over 200k, also job hopped every 1-2 years!

Mr (or Mrs) International.
Honest to god.. did an MBA here in Canada. Loved it. Really helped me pivot and open new doors, graduated in 2022 and making 135k.
Which company and what was your starting pay after graduation?
Not related to current role.
But was making around 60k/year at the old company for 5 years.
Looked outside, saw an opportunity, $85k/year same role + bonus got me to $100k.
And then opportunity came to being a manager and then eventually director in less than 5 years. Your skills/knowledge are worth more to the right people.
So yeah look out of your current company, if the current company cant compensate you, or pay you for your contribution/your worth, it's time to move on.
Did not sell anything, just myself :)
Moved to Canada ~10 years ago, had to take a much lower position of senior PM than the one I had back home, because of the „Canadian work experience” BS. I’m at $130k base now.
Consultant. 170k.
Couldn’t get into Accenture the traditional route with a non-biz background so I networked my way in through someone on LinkedIn
Took a few hundred connection requests but well
worth it !

Pricing analyst.
Approaching 7 YOE.
I think I got to the top of the bracket now because no places want to pay that much to a PA.

I'm a "Manager, Product Management" on paper, live in Toronto. 180k base plus RSUs (but those are taxed so heavily it doesn't contribute much. Started as a software developer at 58k (in 2006), then business analyst at 75k, then product manager 80k -> 130k. Last employer salary went from 140 to 180 in 4 years. Employer is in US and I work remotely, so that's why it's high. For now this is great, but the challenge with working in big tech is that once you are older, you can't get a job anymore. So need to save aggressively. Lots of my former managers (they're now over 50) were pretty much forced to retire because nobody would hire them anymore.
