Not laid off, but fired from a job I had just received a glowing progress report from the President at Head Office (in another city). I was stunned and completely blind-sided by it.
Depends on your level honestly, been through some terrible scenarios post acquisition in ls consulting world where folk were called into rooms and fired out the blue (much crying) during ‘08 downturn. All those who lost their jobs have gone on to have good careers (several used it as an option to do something else they never would have considered before). I have been laid off once, shock and anger first emotions and in time you see the signs, learn from them and will never allow it to happen again. In Pharma, I saw numerous great people laid off, downsized or plain turfed out… most know it’s coming unless whole department go (which have seen). Recent large reorgs feel a rather brutal experience from the outside looking in.
You know it’s coming based on vibes, performance, YOE or what?
