I raised my rate once I had repeat clients, a solid portfolio, and projects that ran smoothly. I also started quoting by project instead of hourly, which shifted the focus from time to value. You’re probably more ready than you think.
I’ve heard the advice over and over again that one should raise their rates enough so that they lose half their clients, but maintain the same amount of income. That gives the enterprising freelancer the ability to spend half their time looking for more clients. For me personally, I try to keep my hourly rate a secret, and I only use it to quote a job and provide a flat fee. If I work effectively and efficiently, you’re damn right I’m making 200 to 250 an hour. If there are issues and the client drags their heels, then I make my usual rate, which is not too much more than what you are charging now. Hope that helps.
I was charging 55/hr when I only had 3 months experience. 250 sounds rich.
How you find the slack group and private community
Where are you finding freelance clients? I've heard Upwork isn't worth it anymore, same for Fiverr.
Can you also provide the Slack group info? I'd love to join if possible. Thanks!
Would love to know the Slack group as well as I'm looking to expand my network.
