Suggestions for retaking the bar after being out of law school/passing in another state a few years ago? Did you redo a full course or take a different approach? Any suggestions for audio study aids to listen on commutes & exercising would be great.

Licensed in 2 states and did 2 full separate exams, didn’t qualify for reciprocity (years of practice not met). Have you looked into reciprocity? If you have to take the full exam, I did Barbri (for both). My first exam was July 2016 and second was Feb 2019. I did the second state while working full time. For the Feb exam, I started studying early (thanksgiving) to space it out instead of cram in during the normal time while working. I would listen to the barbri lectures while commuting, even if not taking notes.

I did the attorneys exam in CA (essays and PT, no MBE multiple choice). Themis had a special course. I dud Barbri out of law school but greatly preferred Themis with Critical Pass cards to supplement.

This is helpful, thanks! I don’t want to do Barbri again.

🐠, need opinions/advice. Persistent recruiter asked me to consider having an exploratory convo with a company for a VP role even though I’m not looking to make a switch. That casual convo has morphed into two interviews this week, one with an SVP and EVP and one with the global head of the practice. It would be a $65k bump in salary. Worth going through with it? Should I mention that I’m not actively looking to leave my current job? Been here 6 months…

When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?

I’m really discouraged. My after tax / after 401k contributions etc. take home pay is $6,500 monthly. I have $60,000 in savings / stocks for a down payment but even looking at a $550,000 home, my monthly payment would be about $3,400 from the calculators I’ve been using. Is that too high?

So discouraged that houses where I live are about 50% higher than what they were 2 years ago, and now interest rates are around 5.25% for my credit score. This is like a 1750 sq foot home

First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).

I hate Kirkland for what they did to me. Got laid off due to intra-firm-politics at a point in my career where I don’t have enough experience to lateral, when the market is so bad for corp/M&A that even with experience getting hired isn’t likely with a Kirkland stain on the resume, during the holidays when getting interviews or even screeners is just as unlikely, and all of this without any warning at all. Recruiters can’t or aren’t helping. I don’t know what to do, but this is a nightmare

People who don’t submit their time daily, how do you remember what you did and for how long? I’ve always just submitted each timer as soon as I finish a task—“call with x re y” really doesn’t take that long even if I’m busy, and if I don’t do it immediately I’ll forget all those little I did in the morning by the time I go to bed. No shade at all to those with different systems, just genuinely curious because I see a lot about catching up at month end on here and I have no idea how that works??
