Manager is better time to leave than SM. Once you hit SM you will be
1. Overpriced for roles below SM/director level as PA starts to accelerate pay above industry by then (in my exp).. although if no increases for a couple of years maybe it won’t be an issue for you
2. At director or SM level I’ve seen a lot of companies want a mix of industry and PA so you’ll be at a disadvantage against others applying for the role
3. You’ll have wasted more years of your life working miserable hours in PA by waiting
What are you looking for when you jump? Salary? Work life balance? There’s so many reason. Chances are if you want less hours you will have to sacrifice in salary and vice versa.
I have the same question as a manager. Should I stay and try to make Sm first?
