I'm an EA at a large university medical system, one level from the top of the admin hierarchy. With 18 years of C-suite support experience, I accepted an offer without negotiating and later learned I'm significantly underpaid. Public salary data shows I'm making $25–30K less than peers at my level, and in some cases less than admins 3–4 levels below me. I've only been here 7 months, but my motivation has tanked. How do I request a compensation review without risking repercussions?

You need to be there at least a year before you’re in a position to ask for a comp review. You accepted the job with the current salary you have. It sucks but such is life. Trust me, we’ve all been there. Crush your performance and leave no doubt. In 5 months, you’ll be in a better position to ask for a comp uplift. But do NOT ask for more money right now as it won’t bode well with your boss. Bite your lip and keep your head down.

Agree with this fully!

Look for another job, and with an offer in-hand, negotiate a higher salary!

By the way- EAs at University medical centers are true heroes.

You don't. Learn for next time.

Like other said, it would not be a good idea to ask for a raise only seven months into your job. Even if you wait a year and get a stellar performance review, they still aren't likely to make up that significant of a salary difference. Your best bet is to start job hunting.

Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?
