I’m curious about moving from industry (CPG/retail/eCommerce) into consulting. Nearly done with my MBA and have 4 years of experience in corporate finance/strategy. Feeling conflicted as it seems many consultants move to industry after a few years. Am in a good spot now or should I try something new? Would love any advice or opinions!

Go only if you feel your work/pay in Industry is getting stagnant
Consulting can give you high growth, but is equally demanding as well

Join some WITCH company or some service IT company and look out for consulting roles
Work a couple of years and switch

That’s what I did after 5 years in industry without an MBA, got my first gig as a freelance senior strategist for Publicis.

The pay was WAY better and ultimately allowed me to pivot to tech

I was pretty much an expert on D2C + omnichannel ecommerce and still am though

Your discipline is in finance so your journey will be different but it’s doable

Agreed, I am a bit reluctant to make the move because consultants are so eager to move to industry lol

I have been in management for the past 8 years and part of large corporations. I just recently joined a small organization that I have wanted to be a part of for the past 2 years, accepted the role of general manager. This organization knew that I don’t have general manager experience, no payroll experience, no experience setting prices, no purchasing experience and today, 6 days after starting, I have been asked to step down due to not being confident that I will be ready in 3 weeks…

Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department. The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US? If it matters, I am a 6th year and have been told that I will be expected to hire a junior or paralegal as we build up.

Hello, in my previous organisation I worked in development domain (Oracle IAM Tool and Java)and my post was software Engineer, i joined Wipro as project Engineer in April 2022 and was assigned non technical project as an analyst.

I fought my way hard to get released from the project. However my designation is changed as Analyst. Should I ask for change in designation as I know that analyst is non-technical profile? Would my designation impact my future role as well?

Hey everyone. I found out we are expecting our first child and I’m really nervous. I got into consulting one year ago and I’m up for promotion this year. With timing of our performance conversations I would have to inform I’m pregnant before outcomes - then shortly after the promotion effective date I would go on a leave for due date. I’ve worked really hard and I’m worried our wonderful news will throw chances with this :(- also if I don’t get promoted pretty sure it’s up or out. Any advice?

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…
