I’m currently the busser for a small restaurant near my city and have been for about a year now. I have zero passion for front of the house work and keep getting neglected when asked to be moved up but I’m not sure how I can quit. I’m making decent money and feel like that should be enough but it’s making my days miserable knowing it will eventually lead to a job I absolutely hate.
I’m only 18 so it may sound stupid but I just want a job I will like before I have to go to college.

The transition from busser / runner to server or bartender is really hard in most restaurants. I would honestly try to find a place that would give you a chance. Seasonal places are good sometimes because they’ll need the extra hands.

Front of house is a whole different experience. Is there any realistic option to get a different position there? If not you can try to look around at other places in the area. Might be better off at least trying for something else, but I know time can be short if you are just looking before going off to college.

Look around your college. Look for a job around there. Maybe plan your commute that way????? The transition from Busser to Server is difficult.

To be honest, many bussers get passed over because they are good and the owner doesn't want to spend training dollars on training a server and a busser at the same time. Sounds like the place you are working at is small. Positions probably open up when people leave or quit. Unless you see a clear path to move up, find a new job.

Completely understand this feeling and wish there was an alternate option, but if there aren't opportunities there to move up and you're burnt-out running food, it sounds like it's time to see what else is out there. Just remember, this isn't forever. If it pays the bills and works for your schedule, it's just a steppingstone to greater things ahead.

Hang onto this role while you look for something else. I know this is going to be quite depressing, but making decent money at a job you don't like is better than making no money at a job you don't like which is a lot of people's reality right now. If you can think of a type of work you'd be more happy in, might be worth applying elsewhere. But if you can figure out how to change your perspective and make that decent money, might be worth sticking it out until college.

GET OUT NOW!!

I'm from Baltimore, and lately, we have had a crazy buying spree, I mean I have sold the same property 2 times in less than 2 weeks, and the person who bought it immediately put it on the market and made an average of $25k in less than 5 days. Many reports show that investing in Baltimore and Philadelphia is the future, I don't doubt it. What is the fastest you have ever resold a property?

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
