I’m evaluating an in-house opportunity, everything feels strong except the title is legal counsel. I have 15+ years experience. My friend said I should at least go with senior counsel. I understand compensation can often be negotiated, but titles feel more nuanced. Do you negotiate titles? how flexible are companies really on titles?

There are 4 things that matter for in house positions: 1. Total compensation; 2. Number of layers between your job and the general counsel; 3. Other important things; and 4. Title.

True

Titles are literally just made up. Why do you care if the comp and work is good?

Guess you’re right

Am I particularly uptight, or is writing meant to be done alone, without a partner talking to you? With past partners, we chat through script notes and then I go off to execute. Current partner likes to sit and chat as I write. To me, writing is crafting a conversation. So I can’t talk to you and simultaneously talk to this audience. Of course I can just say “I’m gonna go write.” But since we’re both CD level, I’m like…is this his first rodeo? Maybe other writers are different though.

So, I've realised there's a problem with developers, a lot of them are coders, not engineers. And another issue, is that, companies don't really care about their progression as far as I'm aware, so what did you guys do in your own time to transition from being a coder to an engineer?

Hi, been stuck in the contract analysis/review cycle. I have asked a few recruiters how to make a lateral move into in-house. They told me to focus on contract management, which I have been doing for the past year. Now that I have, are there any sites besides “jobscan” that I can use to make sure my resume fits the job descriptions? Does anybody know any recruiters that could help me, as well?

I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? Should I hold out for the offer or is 1+ week a sign that I won’t be selected?
