Once you better understand the disease of addiction, you’ll fall in love w the patients. Understanding the disease makes the job so much easier.
True. I’ve been working at a methadone clinic for 10 years now. I absolutely love my patients. They have endured so much in life and I am there to at least try to make their lives a bit easier . It’s been a great journey!
Most people have both issues including myself.
Same. Granted for me, it wasn’t drugs or alcohol but other vices that almost destroyed me.
It’s sad that so many people that want to work in the profession don’t live in the real world and grasp what the reality is when it comes to the relationship between addiction and mental health. 🤦♀️
Try and google Pine rest in Grand Rapids MI am not sure where you are located
Do early intervention with birth to 3 years of age!
Wow. If I was a mental health patient, I certainly wouldn't want to work with "THAT TYPE" of Mental Health "Technician".
Perhaps you should choose better vocabulary. What exactly do you mean by “that type of crowd” ? Medical diseases, illness….germs that cause sickness, chemical imbalance, anything that causes someone to be in a state of abnormal health.. do they choose to be sick? No one chooses to become addicted to anything. They don’t just wake up one day and decide well enough is enough it’s time to become addicted! just like no one chooses to have A mental illness. Disease doesn’t wait for a certain class, race, gender…and addiction affects everyone from dirt poor to the wealthiest. The most educated, most intelligent people have became addicts. However, you chose the profession. I don’t understand because I’m order to have a degree in counseling or to be a counselor you have to have some kind of degree. That means you had an education. Yet, you still have this frame of mind and posted it…..hmmmmmm
However
please look over my errors with spelling ..couldn’t edit. This is a topic I could go on about forever. I’ve saw both sides of it. I’ve bedn a nurse for many years. I am also a recovering addict. The stigma is why more people don’t seek help. Many people have died of overdosing, the fentanyl..well it’s not true fentanyl but anyways, so many people have died snd are dying in the rural area im from it seems like the world is numb to it. It used to be shocking to hear of a death but it is so common anymore, people are numb. The needle use Is rampant. It’s like no one cares anymore. It’s like the world wants people in this area to die because we are dumb hill billies. We had the highest rates for prescription opiate abuse before….I don’t understand how this southern county in rural wv can have one of the highest overdose rates in the world and we are the poorest. How can knowingly causing someone to die by giving them carfentanyl be business? So many people are aware someone’s dying of an overdose but do nothing but step over the body to get their fix and not call 911? Young adults living under bridges. Hepatitis..how can people not care? I don’t understand. I’m far from perfect I am certainly no better but it hurts me to know this. It hurts me to see the statements above and to know there’s so much ugly in this world! Animals receive better care!! There’s no compassion. I’ve even read where people commented good they are killing themselves off. It could be any one of us, our daughters, sisters, mothers, cousins…and the world doesn’t care. Just turns blind eye. No one does anything about it. Why?? I want to help my area I try to encourage and any help at all is needed, here. Its just so sad.
There’s a lot of people who deal with mental health issues that are also dealing with addiction. I’m one of them that is in recovery, but it’s because of people, unlike you, that grasp that concept.
Stop having disdain for addicts. A lot of us either haven’t had access to behavioral healthcare for most of our lives or were brushed off by people like you when we tried.
So yeah, get off your high horse already, look at what the reality is and do what you should be doing: helping people.
Do you have a masters degree?
I have been applying but the response is slow , sometimes no feedback.
A lot of people who are going through addiction, they go their addiction because of mental health. You would be hard pressed to find someone experiencing mental health problems without a substance problem
Try applying at a mental health hospital
The drug addicts and alcoholics are very difficult to deal with I hate dealing with them because they are so manipulative and always drama smoking weed in their rooms dealing in the parking lot just drained from this population.
Become an IT tech lots of money.
CenterPoint is hiring
Impact Support Services is always hiring. It's working with IDD individuals
By “That type of crowd” you mean human beings that for one reason or another [ major depression, sexual abuse/ trauma, high levels of anxiety, genetics and environment predispositions ..]self medicate to quiet the pain?
It is good that you see what you will be good at and what not. Mental Health issues are extremely common. It breaks my heart to see how human beings that go to a psychiatric unit to get “help” are mocked, mistreated and disrespected by some psychiatrists, nurses and the technicians that are there to be there 1:1. They are rude with the patients and abuse their authority in the place. Please people if you don’t have empathy don’t work in anything that has to do with mental health.
*Their 1:1
