I am European and my partner is Norwegian - spend a lot of time there. (Specifically, some of his family live along the fjords.) September is a great time to visit but definitely check you have some good wool jumpers etc just in case there's a cold snap.
October is when the transition to winter would shorten your days and make it a bit uncomfortable if you didn't have specific gear for cold and wet weather.
However, if you were to visit another time, I would recommend May. May 17th is their national day and it's incredible to be a part of. The days are usually pretty warm and bright by then but there aren't as many tourists in the fjords (or flies in the mountains if you want to go hiking).
If you stop off in Oslo before heading to Bergen/Stavanger/Trondheim, make sure to see their Viking museum! It's only a short bus ride from the centre.
Enjoy exploring Europe!
Thank you so much!!

I love the fjords I’ve been a few times. You probably won’t do much hiking in September but you can still see them and it’s totally worth it. I personally prefer to fly into Bergen and spend more time up there. Definitely do a boat ride through the fjords
