That depends on the atmosphere, if it's the kind of place where you're expecting to be moving around and circulating it could be a bad look. But on a more serious note, you should get that looked at. Leg pain could be something relatively minor, or it could be serious and potentially dangerous, deep vein thrombosis or other nasty conditions.
Feel you on this. Never used to have a problem with the physical demands of the job, but my feet have really started to hurt over the past 2-3 years. If you're able to do it out of sight of the rest of your staff, I say go for it.
Just be straightforward tell them your leg hurt,
yeah you’re right! Sometimes a little straightforwardness pays off!
I feel your pain, sir. I’m in my 40s and experience inflammation in my feet. I have to take Tylenol to stay on top of things as well as being in excellent condition. You should stretch and drink water
Yes I take Tylenol too sometimes. Stretching seems to also help. I didn’t know water helps but I will try it!
I dont think it is bad form as a manager per say. Maybe try explaining to your employees whats been going on & how sometimes you'll be taking short breaks while its slow to easy the pain, they might be sympathetic. . I'm 32 & ive been in FS for nearly a decade now. I did too much in my younger years & am paying for it now. My left hip is out of place & i can readjust it daily myself usually. My back? Absolutely horrible. Definitely incorporate stretching into your daily routines as well, it's really the only thing that helps me.
Yeah I feel like I abused my body back in my 30s… probably explains why I’m in so much pain these days…
I would mention exactly what you said here, that you would like to sit more often when possible. However, don't ignore the discomfort in your leg. Do you have any edema at all? Just make sure it's not a sign of something more serious. I would also suggest wearing compression socks, they have helped reduce my inflammation so much.
Oh compression socks! That is a great idea!
You could always ask your manager. If not, you could get a reasonale accomodation. I don't think sitting when you are slow should be an issue.
K good to know it doesn’t appear too unprofessional, especially when it’s slow!
I've had this issue before and a chiropractor solved it
I felt the same. I worked for a company where the owners didn’t believe in office work, computers, paperwork, or meetings. They expected me to be on the floor all day, every day. And the office was upstairs. I used to climb 35 stairs about 20 times a day on top of being on the floor, and they even told me I was just getting tired because of my age (46). Once I realized how unprofessional they were, I started taking longer breaks and spending more time in the office to take care of myself. After that, I no longer woke up with leg cramps.
Sit when you can but don’t make it too obvious. 4hr shift server dunno you started 5hrs ago and still have 4-5 to go.
I am 60 and still in the business. I blew out my left knee in 2018 and had it replaced. I walked with a cane for 6 months but I did my job. Now my left knee is gone. I wear a Forrest Gump style brace under my pants to keep my knee from buckling. It’s hard but I can’t take their time off to replace my knee. Trust me not being on the floor and sitting in the office or in the dining room is a death sentence. Get your leg fixed as fast as you possibly can. Try PT, lose weight, exercise. You are in a business where we have to walk around. I wish you well. I have been there. I also broke my back as well which put me out of work for a year. That’s why I am still working at 60
