I would strongly encourage you to do it on the side before committing to it full-time. I made the mistake of burning out at my job and jumping into consulting headfirst and I was totally unprepared. It ended up failing and I had to go back to being an employee. If I could do it all over again, I would do it part-time on the side until I built up enough clientele to transition to full-time.

If you have the contacts and network to make it work, then go for it… but if there is any shadow of a doubt that you may stumble, I’d stay away… consulting is a hard business and it’s highly competitive… and if you don’t have the capital to survive the ‘winters’ then it’s probably not a good idea…
The transition from 9-5 to ownership turns predictable income into unpredictable income… it turns predictable schedules into unpredictable schedules… the first 3-5 years will consist of 60+ hour weeks, for low compensation in the beginning, before you hit an inflection point… and you’ll have to live your brand, everyone is watching… everything from behaviors to lifestyle…
That's the kind of scenario where you have to be a fantastic networker to make it work. Talk to your professional contacts and see if you think you could bring in enough business to make it viable. This reminds me of some advice I heard once: "Before you play the game, study the winners. If you don't want their life, don't play their game."
I say go for it. LIfe is too short to not go for your dreams. I haven't ever done it so I don't have any solid advice but I do wish you the best of luck.

Yeah there's a really hilarious website that generates "AI Consulting Slop" basically generic power point presentations for any company you can imagine. I guess my advice is to go look at it and laugh and then make sure your stuff doesn't look like it 😂
