Leaner legal team means leaner budget which means you won't have the tools you're accustomedwith, so be prepared to be extra creative such as finding precedents. Smaller teams also mean you're dealing with a smaller universe of co-workers which you can't run away from so be sure their personalities aren't off during the interview.
I moved to a leaner team and it is very, very difficult. A smaller team actually has meant less collaboration and more silo-ing for me. In my larger team I was constantly bouncing ideas off of other people but here I’m constantly reinventing the wheel and starting from scratch because my teammates haven’t come across the same breadth of issues that my former team had.
I worked with a lean legal team, and I loved it. Sometimes working for a smaller team has its perks. Your workload might increase, though, so make sure you are being compensated fairly.
